“The aroma of the “shisha” (waterpipe) she was smoking during the dance “tableau” still haunts me today: melon scented, invading us with sweetness and a sacred delirious sensual bliss: her eyes half closed and pregnant with promises of earthly and divine pleasures – none of them illicit or “haram”, as Muslims call to everything that is not sanctioned by God. The world at her (our) feet caressed by the weight of her round and proud hips (there is something MAGICAL* about a Woman who EMBRACES her hips as the Big Tree roots they are).
She was VENUS, LILITH, BAUBO, the MOON and the SUN having a Party: mother, father, sister, daughter, friend, lover, wife, earth and sky, fire and water: all the pieces of the puzzle reunited – revealed into ONEness. No separation, shelves or labels on our foreheads: Mother or Spinster: Wife or Lover (hooker, to be straightforward): FREE or JAILED. Or. Or. Or: nothing of that mediocrity.”
