“When you dance – as when you love or do something creative – vulnerability, an open heart with no reservations whatsoever will build the bridge that TRULY connects you with other people. Remember that Oriental Dance is – above everything else – a sacred and universal practice of HUMAN CONNECTION and that is not possible if we don´t move (and live) from that place* of openness and truth about who we are (flaws and darkness included in the cocktail).
Other people – our students, audience, friends or lovers – will RECOGNIZE their own HUMANITY and PURE HEART on us (Oriental Dancers are such mirrors!); that recognition will assure the presence of the DIVINE SPARK that always belonged to this ancestral dance. That is why I often say that Oriental Dance is RELIGIOUS – in the truest sense of the word (RE-LIGARE = reunite what has been lost or separated).”
