For me, reading Naguib Mahfouz is always an intimate experience – I recognize the characters he brings to life as if I knew them (because I do); I know most of the places he describes – Old Cairo has always been my favourite part of the mad city – and I can read between and beneath his lines. Only a Philosopher (like he was) could grasp Egypt with such lucidity and compassion.
In love, as usual.
P.S: In love with “Sugar Street” but not only. In love with the 2nd edition of my own (first) book: “The Secrets of Egypt – Dance, Life & Beyond”. More about it later 😉
