“Raks il baladi” or “dance of the homeland” taught by Joana Saahirah, according to her career experience in Egypt (8 years of daily performances at the best venues of Egypt with her own orchestra). More than a particular style, “baladi” is a language of the hips, a special world of feeling, memories, sensuality, depth and freedom. In this workshops, we´ll approach typical posture, attitude, character and technique of the Baladi. Plus a small choreography that illustrates the theme. OPEN TO ALL LEVELS

The urban popular dance of Egypt widely practiced in the streets, weddings and revolutionary venues. Although “shaabi” seems to be a trend, it has always existed in Egypt. It´s most famous representative is Ahmed Hadaweya. Shaabi style is the reflexion of Egyptian society joys, struggles, dreams and frustration. It´s a style that tells us about the common Egyptians and their world. It´s also a contemporary version of the classical Egyptian dance, incorporating foreign elements like hip hop and break dance. Fun, often outrageous, full of guts and daring creativity. Be ready to bring the house down! OPEN TO ALL LEVELS
